MSU Police investigating a report of sexual assault

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Police department is investigating a report of criminal sexual conduct that occurred at about 2 a.m. today near the Main Library off West Circle Drive.

A 19-year-old student said she was walking near the library when a stranger asked her if she needed directions, police said.  After replying that she did not need directions, the suspect grabbed and sexually assaulted her, according to police.

The suspect is described as a white man, about 30 years old, 6 feet tall; and a very thin build with short, reddish hair and slight facial hair. The student was unable to provide a clothing description.

MSU police are asking anyone who was in the area and may have seen anything or anyone matching the suspect’s description to contact the department at (517) 355-2222.

Safety Tips

  1. Call 911 if you are in danger.
  2. Walk in well-lit areas if possible.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings and others in the area.
  4. Realize that listening to headphones or iPods, or talking on your cell while walking decreases your awareness of your surroundings.
  5. Walk with others when possible.
