MSU Police are investigating an assault and battery

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Police are investigating the report of an assault and battery against a 20-year-old student that occurred at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday near the Natural Science Building.

Police said the student reported being assaulted as she walked from her class at Berkey Hall toward the Natural Science Building when a stranger grabbed her near the southeast corner of the building and attempted to pull her shirt off. The woman said she fought off her attacker, who punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground.

The student received medical treatment for minor injuries to the left side of her face, police said. The woman told police she does not believe any weapons were involved.

Police were called after the student alerted a friend who drove her to her off-campus residence.

The student described the suspect as being about 6 feet tall and of unknown race. He was last seen wearing dark baggy clothing and fled in an unknown direction from the south side of the Natural Science Building.

MSU police are asking anyone who was in the area and may have seen anything or anyone matching the description of the suspect to contact the department at (517) 355-2222.
