Police investigating residence hall armed robbery

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Police are investigating a reported armed robbery that occurred at 6 p.m. Nov. 8 in Abbot Hall.

A 19-year-old student awoke to find an unidentified male standing in his room holding his roommate’s laptop. When the student told the suspect he was “not going to be stealing anything from him” and to leave, another male entered the room and appeared to be holding a gun under his sweatshirt. 

The alleged robbers stole $20 in cash and threatened revenge if police were notified and then fled the room. The victim was not injured.

The student stated that one of the suspects was black, of medium build, about 6 feet tall and in his 20s. He was wearing dark jeans, a black sweatshirt with white lettering and a black hat. The second suspect was described as a Hispanic male, about 6 feet 4 inches tall, medium build and in his 20s. He wore a white hooded sweatshirt.

  1. Call 911 if you are in danger.
  2. Walk in well-lit areas if possible.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings and others in the area.
  4. Realize that listening to headphones or iPods or talking on your cell while walking decreases your awareness of your surroundings.
  5. Walk with others when possible.
